Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

Thank you for hosting such an amazing luncheon for the faculty and staff.  Your generosity and thoughtfulness is so appreciated.  All of the teachers had a wonderful afternoon and enjoyed the lunch.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Religion:  Finish and review Chapter 8;  Chapter 8 Test on Friday;  Advent Penance Service on Tuesday

Literature:  Finish reading and discussing Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone;  Focus on standards of plot and theme

Language Arts:  Grammar:  continue verb tenses; linking verbs;  Writing:  Finish revisions of Hogwarts House Essay; Spelling:  Unit 12- plural words and irregular plural words. Vocabulary Workshop:  Complete Unit 5; Vocabulary Unit 5 test on Friday

Social Studies:  Review Chapter 6;  Chapter 6 Test on Thursday

Art:  Apply Knowledge of the 5 basic elements of shape to drawing a realistic bird from a photograph; Use shape, color, and value to create a picture of a bird using painted paper collage technique

Music:  Practice music for Christmas Pageant

Welcome Back!

Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

I hope everyone had a relaxing and fun-filled Thanksgiving Break.  Now, it is time to get ready for the Advent season as we wait and prepare to celebrate the birth of the Baby Jesus. I absolutely LOVE this time of year and enjoy each day preparing with the class. It is always a special time.

Monday:  No Monday Morning Mass!  Regular schedule

Tuesday:  Pizza Lunch

Friday:  11:15 – 4th and 5th Grade All-School Mass.  Please come and join us! Minimum Day

Religion:  Prepare for Advent reconciliation Service next Tuesday; Begin Chapter 8- The coming of the Holy Spirit; Pentecost, laying on of hands; The Sacrament of Confirmation

Literature:  Continue to read and discuss Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone; Focus on standards of plot and theme

Social Studies:  Begin chapter 6:  Early English Settlements:  Roanoke and Jamestown;  The Plymouth Settlement

Language Arts;  Introduction to Vocabulary Workshop Unit 5; Spelling Unit 11Test on Friday;  Grammar:  Verb Tenses and Linking Verbs

Technology:  Typing Quest:  Work on Hogwarts House Revisions and submit through Google Docs

Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

This last week before Thanksgiving Vacation is busy with activity.  I will not be posting a Curriculum Update due to the shortened daily schedule.  I will however post homework on Plan Book each night  as the class will have Math, Literature and Language Arts each day.

I also would like to thank all of you for your support of our Fifth Grade Sorting Ceremony.  The class had an amazing day and enjoyed the magic.  A BIG thank you to Mrs. Koresaar, Mrs. Del Muro, Mr. Del Muro, Mrs. Turquand, Mrs. Limberg, Mrs. Moreau, Mrs. Daly, Mrs. Goldman,Mrs. Liem and Mrs. Bonakdar for their assistance and support in making this day over the top fabulous.

Here is just a brief run-down for the upcoming week:

Tuesday:  Spirit Run!  Come join the fun and cheer your Fifth Grader on!  Minimum Day- Parent Teacher Conferences

Social Studies:  Begin Explorer’s Report;  Continue Chapter 4:  Wealth, New foods and Cash crops in the New World; Changes in Europe spur exploration

Literature:  Continue to read and discuss the novel, Wonder;  Begin to plan and organize Theme Paragraph on Wonder

Language Arts:  Spelling:  NO SENTENCES THIS WEEK;  Unit 6 Test on Friday;  Grammar:  Prepositions is writing; Verbs- To be; Verbs of action and contractions;  Vocabulary Workshop:  Introduction to Unit 3 vocabulary words

Social Studies:  Finish Chapter 4 and begin Chapter 5:  Explorers of the New World;  routes of exploration to the New World:  Columbus and John Cabot;  Begin research for Explorer’s Google Slide Presentation

Literature:  Continue to read and discuss Wonder;  Focus on standard of Character analysis

Language Arts:  Spelling Unit 5 Test on Friday– spelling contractions and homophones who’s and whose;  Grammar:  Finish review of unit one:  Unit one test on Wednesday; Vocabulary Workshop:  Continue Unit 2- Test on Friday
